Getting to Wellington

Wellington is approximately one hour’s flight from Auckland International Airport. Air New Zealand and Jetstar offer flights to Wellington regularly from there.

If you want to fly to Wellington directly, you can do so from most international ports via Australia with:

  • Air New Zealand from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane
  • Jetstar from Gold Coast
  • Qantas from Sydney and Melbourne
  • Virgin Australia from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne
  • Singapore Airlines from Melbourne

Getting Around in Wellington

One of the best ways to explore Wellington is on foot. The central city is only two kilometers in diameter.  You can walk from one side to the other in under 20 minutes. Click here to download a map of the downtown area.

By Bus

Wellington has an excellent public transport system which is well used by the locals. Click here for public transport information website for buses, trains and harbour ferries. You can pay in cash once you get on the buses or you can buy a Snapper Card from places where you see the Snapper icon.
