Getting to Wellington

Wellington is approximately one hour’s flight from Auckland International Airport. Air New Zealand and Jetstar offer flights to Wellington regularly from there.

If you want to fly to Wellington directly, you can do so from most international ports via Australia with:

  • Air New Zealand from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane
  • Jetstar from Gold Coast
  • Qantas from Sydney and Melbourne
  • Virgin Australia from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne
  • Singapore Airlines from Melbourne

Getting Around in Wellington

One of the best ways to explore Wellington is on foot. The central city is only two kilometers in diameter.  You can walk from one side to the other in under 20 minutes. Click here to download a map of the downtown area.

By Bus

Wellington has a public transport system which is well used by the locals. Click here for public transport information website for buses, trains and harbour ferries. You can pay in cash once you get on the buses or you can buy a Snapper Card from places where you see the Snapper icon.

Getting to the campus from the airport

The Airport Flyer, bus service 91, operates from Wellington Airport to Wellington City or Queensgate – Lower Hutt. You will find signs showing where the bus stop is at the airport. The bus is clearly labeled “91”. You can use your Snapper Card (NZD 10) or pay the driver (NZD 12). Click here to check the timetable for this bus service.

Please let the driver know that you want to get off at the first bus stop on “Courtney Place”. On Courtney Place, you can take Bus 21 to get to Kelburn campus. You can plan your trip using Metlink service.
